Truth's Found When Beauty's Lost.
Since childhood, seventeen-year-old Ellie Summerfield has fought to overcome her grandfather's painful words that push her to be driven, determined, and successful to the detriment of those around her. She always strives to do more, be more, help more. But when a tragedy stops her world short, Ellie is confronted with her deepest fears and this question: what is her life really worth?
Experience one girl's journey to rebuild herself into someone who is truly beautiful.
I first fell in love with the author's writing when I read another of her books Ruby Unscripted...so I wasn't surprised when I read Beautiful and found it just as enchanting!
To everyone who knows her, Ellie is the perfect girl....perfect daughter, perfect student, perfect girlfriend....just perfect. This opposed to her sister Megan who seems to strive to be the exact opposite of Ellie: sarcastic, rebellious and aloof. Not to mention the fact that she wore a bright yellow dress to her grandfathers funeral (hey, it was his favorite color) dyes her hair black and wears way too much make-up.
After Ellie experiences a life-altering event everything changes....including her relationships with the the people in her life: her parents and sister, her boyfriend Ryan even her grandfather who passed away. Ellie must look within to find out who she truly is.
This is an awesome book! I loved the story and the writing is beautiful. The author does a great job of infusing the book with the Christian theme of learning to lean on God without being preachy which can turn some people off. It's a subtle but important part of the theme of the book. I'm going to be recommending this book like crazy in the library!
A great book for middle school and up!
