Give Up the Ghost

Cass McKenna much prefers the company of ghosts over "breathers." Ghosts are uncomplicated and dependable, and they know the dirt on everybody... and Cass loves dirt. She's on a mission to expose the dirty secrets of the poseurs in her school. But when the vice president of the student council discovers her secret, Cass's whole scheme hangs in the balance. Tim wants her to help him contact his recently deceased mother, and Cass reluctantly agrees. As Cass becomes increasingly entwined in Tim's life, she's surprised to realize he's not so bad--and he needs help more desperately than anyone else suspects. Maybe it's time to give the living another chance...
Ahhhh, ghost stories...as old as time but we never seem to get tired of them. Why? Because storytellers just keep coming up with fresh new twists that keep us coming back for more!
Ever since her big sister Paige died in an accident, Cass has been able to see her and other ghosts...a gift she has learned to use for her own benefit. Needless to say her life has changed majorly since the death of her sister. She went from happy-go-lucky teen to avoiding almost everyone she knows.
When Tim talks her into trying to contact his mom, Cass is torn but ends up agreeing to help him out. This leads to something unexpected...is she starting to care for Tim?
There are some really great characters in this book. Of course there is Cass and her sister Paige who have a very "unique" relationship and then there are the two ghosts who reside within the walls of Cass's school who do a lot of her dirty work when it comes to finding out peoples secrets. The relationship between Cass and her parents is also a key part of the story.
I really enjoyed this book and getting to know Cass. Her story is not only about her special ability to see ghosts but process of her grieving as she learns to live with the loss of her sister and how to move past it.
Recommended for middle school and up!
